Do You Know It? If Not, Can You Find It?
Everyone has a special gift, but most people aren’t aware of theirs. For a fortunate few, the gift is clear from a young age: art, music, or dance—abilities that can be seen, heard, and nurtured. Athletic talent is often recognized early, too.
When Your Gift Is Harder to Recognize
But many gifts are quieter, less visible—talents expressed through skills that don’t reach the public eye or ear: design, woodworking, cooking, weaving. People with these gifts often have to find their way alone, without encouragement from those who don’t recognize what they’re seeing.
When You Don't Realize That It's a Gift
Some have gifts that are even more easily overlooked—like empathy, or the ability to put others at ease, or to see potential in someone before they see it in themselves.
Why So Many Gifts Stay Hidden
Everyone has the potential for excellence in the things they most enjoy—the things they are naturally drawn to. But those inner inclinations can be blocked or buried by the emotional discomforts that build up from early life onward. That discomfort becomes a kind of background noise, clouding your ability to recognize and enjoy your gift.
Your Inner Guide Can Enlighten You
If you are one of the many who aren't yet sure that you have a gift, or what it is, you can ask your Inner Guide about it: "What is my special gift?" Examples
One woman whom I helped worked in finance. She had many discomforts but after her Inner Guide had cleared them away, she realized that she absolutely delighted in working with the numbers that were a part of her work.
Another was an elementary school teacher. I could see she was deeply gifted, but she was so distressed by interpersonal problems at work (not of her making) that she couldn’t appreciate her gift. Once her Inner Guide had helped her, she recognized it—and as the workplace tensions faded, she was able to fully enjoy her students.
